Doctor Who (New Series) - Part 82 "The Doctor Dances"

With the Doctor, Rose and Jack backed up against the wall, the Doctor has a brilliant idea. With the sick residents acting like the child searching for it's mummy, he orders them to "GO TO YOUR ROOM". Reluctantly they return to their beds. Meanwhile, the Empty Child has cornered Nancy back at the house she was pillaging for food, but suddenly he also stops and walks away, much to her disbelief. The Doctor is relieved his plan worked as he believes those would have been terrible last words.

Nancy watches the Empty Child walk away. She softly calls him Jamie and is sad to see him leave. She finally decides to leave the house when a little boy that lives in the house scares her, as he's wearing a gas mask. He takes it off and calls for his parents. His dad calls the police and mocking asks Nancy if there is anything else in the house she would like. To his shock, she tells him exactly what she wants: wire cutters, a peak inside the food cabinet once more and to use the bathroom. She reveals she knows about his affair. Reluctantly, he agrees to her demands, wiping the sweat from his brow.

Continuing the examination of the hospital ward, the Doctor discovers a room where the Empty Child (Jamie) was questioned by Dr. Constantine. They discover a tape with a recording of the interview but suddenly the tape comes to an end and Jamie continues to speak. The Doctor suddenly realizes this is what the Empty Child recognizes as his room. Suddenly, the child appears in the room. As the Doctor, Rose and Jack escape, the child begins to break through the wall. The child then calls the other residents of the ward and the other zombie like people begin chasing the three.

When they finally retreat to a room with no exit, Jack uses his ships teleporter to escape. The Doctor attempts to break out using his sonic screwdriver but Jack radio's the Doctor and Rose and tells them he'll teleport them out also once he's made some recalibration. To pass the time, Jack plays the same Glen Miller song him and Rose danced to on top of his Chula ship. While they wait, Rose asks the Doctor to dance. As they discuss Jack, (and weather the Doctor can dance), they are unaware they've suddenly been teleported. Jack says they make a cute couple. He then admits to Rose the Doctor may have a valid reason not to trust him. During his time as a Time Agent, Jack woke up one day to find two years of his memories wiped out.

Nancy takes the wire cutters to investigate the fallen Chula ambulance. She knows this is the site where Jamie died earlier. The military, however, have the area surrounded by barbed wire. She cuts her way in using the wire cutters but is soon caught. The guard assigned to watch her suddenly begins asking for his mummy as his face morphs into a gas mask. He's had no direct contact with Jamie so the nanogenes are now being transmitted via the air.

After considering all the information before him, the Doctor realizes what's going on. He confronts Nancy and has her admit she isn't Jamie's sister, but a very young and unwed mother. As Jamie closes in on her, she admits the truth and tells Jamie so. She hugs him, which excites the nanogenes. But instead of changing Nancy, they scan her parent DNA and conclude she is the master template, the form Jamie should be. Correcting their mistake, they change Jamie back to a natural human.

Taking advantage of the corrected nanogenes, the Doctor spreads the 'upgrade' to the other gas mask zombie people, changing them back to humans. As an added bonus, any ill health has been corrected, even growing back previously missing limbs. But it's still 'volcano day' for everyone standing by as the German bomb is about to drop any second. Captain Jack quickly transports back to his ship to tractor the bomb away from everyone. He says goodbye to Rose and takes the bomb safely away. Back on his ship, Jack's fears are confirmed by his ships computer. He can't release the bomb without it exploding, killing him as well. Suddenly he realizes the Tardis is on his ship. Quickly he runs into the Tardis to discover the Doctor and Rose dancing.

Doctor Who (New Series) - Part 81 "The Empty Child"

The Doctor and Rose are following a piece of space debris which is falling through time back to Earth. The Doctor informs Rose it's 'mauve' - the standard colour for emergencies. When Rose asks about a 'red alert' she's told that's just for Earth. Suddenly the object begins to jump time tracks making it harder for the Doctor to follow.

Despite the elusive pod, the Tardis locks in and lands on Earth. The Doctor wanders into a lounge club to see if he can find information on the pod that has landed. After a singer has finished her song, he takes the stage and asks everyone if they have seen something fall out of the sky recently. Everyone laughs just before an air raid siren alerts everyone. The place clears out and it's then the Doctor realizes the year is 1941, World War II is raging - things are falling from the sky constantly. Meanwhile, Rose notices a young boy wearing a gas mask on the roof of a building.

Rose decides to follow the youth to make sure he's okay. Finding a rope, she begins to climb it. As she makes her ascend the rope suddenly moves. What she thought was a rope connected to the top of the building is actually from a barrage balloon. It begins to move and carry her away with it. Suddenly she is suspended, dangling over London with German airplanes flying around her.

When the Doctor realizes Rose is no longer around he sets off to find her when he suddenly hears the phone from the Tardis ring. A young girl warns him not to answer the phone but curiosity gets the better of him and he hears a young boy asking for his mum. Considering the Tardis phone is not connected to anything, the Doctor is baffled it rings. It's even more difficult to understand how there can be someone on the other end talking to him. When he turns to ask the young lady, she is gone.

Nancy is the one who warned the Doctor not to answer the phone. She's homeless and while the air raid is in progress (with others 'safely' in their bunkers) she looks for houses with fresh food. Finding a warm meal, she calls the other homeless children to dinner but is surprised to find the Doctor seated at the table. He inquires about the phone call and discovers the empty child when it tries to get into the house. All the kids scatter and Nancy warns the Doctor not to let it touch him.

Still dangling over London, Rose suddenly loses her grip and begins plummeting to her death. Fortunately for Rose, she's rescued by someone named Captain Jack. Jack transports her into his invisible ship and sweeps her off her feet. He then heals her rope burns with the help of on-board nanogenes. While dancing and drinking wine on top of his spaceship, he identifies her as a Time Agent and offers a deal on the 'Chula Warship' her and the Doctor are looking for. 

Nancy takes the Doctor to meet another doctor, who has some particular patients. Anyone who has touched the empty child becomes a 'gas mask zombie', calling for it's mummy. When the doctor begins to show the same symptoms, the Doctor realizes the virus has become airborne. Jack, along with Rose, track down the Doctor when Jack scans for alien tech. Once again Rose is impressed with Jack for his 'Spock' like abilities, unlike how the Doctor operates.

Once reunited with the Doctor, they find out Jack is just a con-man and tried to convince them he had something valuable. Instead his 'empty' Chula Ambulance has released nanogenes which are rewriting human DNA. As Nancy is finally cornered by the empty child in another house she's pillaging, the hospital ward suddenly comes alive and all the patients approach the Doctor, Rose & Jack, asking for their mummy.

Doctor Who (New Series) - Part 80 "The Long Game"

The Tardis lands on space station 'Satellite 5' and the Doctor and Rose walk out before new companion, Adam Mitchell can exit. The Doctor decides to play a prank on Adam and gives Rose all the information he can assess about where they have landed. Once Adam walks out, Rose takes a look around and describes where they have landed and the approximate time. Adam is dumb-founded by the sudden culture shock. The Doctor taunts Rose that he's her boyfriend, to which Rose replies, "Not any more."

In order to gain additional information, the Doctor approaches a couple of women and asks where he is. Cathica (on the right) assumes he's stupid because the answer is obvious but Suki believes it's a training exercise. The Doctor goes along with it and assumes the role of a supervisor. He asks if they will show him around and Cathica agrees, hoping for a promotion when she demonstrates her skills.

Satellite 5 is a news station. Using implanted technology, Cathica is able to open her head and import a compressed data stream (collected from Suki and other journalists) directly into her head for presentation and documentation. Adam is at first revolted, then extremely intrigued by the amount of knowledge which can be acquired in this fashion.

The connection is suddenly terminated and Suki apologizes to Cathica, explaining it must have been a glitch. But the data process has been watched by 'the Editor' who feels something is amiss. He has double checked everyone in the room and determines Suki is not who she claims to be. The Editor orders her to be brought upstairs and a fake promotion is granted her, which upsets Cathica. Once she arrives, Suki discovers decays bodies and an Editor who has learned she is an undercover agent for the Freedom Foundation, an organization who believe Satellite Five is not all it claims to be.

While the Doctor and Rose are trying to convince Cathica something odd is going on, Adam has decided to feign homesickness. While he's away from the Doctor, Adam gets the head implant so he can store all future knowledge directly into his head for later use. Using a 'super' phone given to him by Rose, Adam utilizes his new implant to leave a 'white noise' message on his home answering machine to decipher later.

While Adam is helping himself, the Doctor has realized human society has been stunted and should be more advanced than it really is. Attempts to illustrate the point to Cathica is unheeded so Rose and the Doctor go to floor 500 to confront the Editor. Because Adam has interfaced with the news source, the Editor knows about the Doctor. He captures the pair and introduces them to the Jagrafess, known as Max. The Jagrafess has been controlling and manipulating humans for years, along with its superiors.

Meanwhile, Cathica has been considering what the Doctor was trying to tell her so she does a bit of investigating of her own. She travels to floor 500 and sees the Doctor and Rose captured by the Jagrafess and learns it needs the cold to survive. She uses her implant to access the stations environmental system and allows the floor to heat up, killing the creature. Cathica asks for the Doctors help in cleaning up but he declines; he's got bigger fish to fry.

Adam is waiting for the Doctor at the Tardis. He tries to explain he's okay but the Doctor orders him into the Tardis. Adam attempts to defend himself by saying everything that happened was the Doctors fault because he was in charge. In an instant, the Tardis lands in Adam's house. The Doctor has dropped him off at home and tells Adam he can't travel with him any more because he only takes the best. Before leaving, the Doctor destroys the answering machine which has the data stream Adam left on it from the future.

REASON FOR DEPARTURE: After deciding to help himself to future information, the Doctor kicks him out of the Tardis for good.

Doctor Who (New Series) - Part 79 "Dalek"

The Doctor picks up a distress signal and is drawn back to Earth in the year 2012. The Tardis lands in an underground bunker in Utah, USA. Stepping out of the Tardis, the Doctor and Rose discover they are in a museum of alien artefacts. They find a Slitheen arm and one of the Doctor's old 'friends'; a Cybermen. But it's just a dormant helmet, and not the source of the distress call. When the Doctor touches the glass, alarms are sounded and the two are soon apprehended by armed security.

Henry van Statten is one of the richest, and most eccentric men in the world. He will acquire any alien artefact he can get his hands on, no matter the price. His orders are never challenged, if they are, the person is immediately dismissed, has his memory wiped, and dropped off in some random city. When he hears about the Doctor and Rose he tells Diana Goddard and the rest of his group they must have come "intruder" window. A joke no thinks is funny till he tells them it is.

Van Statten's most prized possession is a live alien specimen he calls the Metaltron. Though he knows it's capable of speech, the Metaltron has yet to talk to Henry, so he has one of his men torture it. When the Doctor boasts about his knowledge of alien technology, Henry offers to show him the Metaltron.

The Doctor is led into a darkened room. The door closes behind him by order of van Statten. A single light is illuminated and the Doctor reassures the creature he is there to help. But this alerts the Metaltron and the rooms lights are illuminated. This is when the Doctor first realizes the Metaltron is in fact a Dalek. The Dalek tries to exterminate the Doctor but it's gun in inoperable. The Doctor laughs and tells the Dalek how worthless he is, especially since he's the last Dalek in existence. We then learn the Doctor had to sacrifice his planet in order to destroy every Dalek in a "Time War".

When the Doctor tries to kill the Dalek, Henry takes him out of 'the cage' and confines him, excited he's got another alien to add to his collection. While that's taking place, Rose is spending time with Adam Mitchell, one of van Statten's artefact collectors. He shows her the room where he reviews and catalogues all the alien artefacts he buys on the internet. They each discover they've got an interest in each other. Adam is happy when he learns Rose and the Doctor are just friends.

Using his ingeniousness, Adam breaks into one of the security cameras in the 'cage' to show Rose the Metaltron. When she sees it's being tortured she asks to go see it. When Rose walks in, she feels sorry for the creature and gently touches it. The Dalek is then able to absorb the residual temporal energies from her and regenerate itself. It breaks the chains confining it.

The chief in charge of torturing the Dalek rushes in, excited yet uncertain of what the Dalek can do. He sees the Dalek plunger arm and scoffs, "What are you gonna do, sucker me to death?" The Dalek then uses the plunger arm to sucker the man to death. Alarms are sounded and Henry van Statten is forced to halt his examination of the Doctor. The Doctor tells Henry to let him go if he wants to live. Reluctantly Henry agrees as the Dalek begins to go on a killing rampage, exterminating all that get in it's way.

When the Dalek comes face to face with Rose, it's unable to exterminate her. It has a sense of pity for her and later spares the life of Henry when Rose pleads with it. The Doctor realizes that when Rose touched it, the Dalek also absorbed some of her DNA. So with the regeneration, it began to develop feelings. Realizing it truly is a worthless Dalek, it destroys itself. van Statten's right-hand girl Diana Goddard has finally had enough of Henry and orders him to be removed with his memory wiped. The remaining security are all too happy to oblige.

MINOR COMPANION: Adam Mitchell

ORIGIN: Earth, circa 2012

REASON FOR JOINING: The Doctor is reluctant, but Rose asks for Adam to join the Tardis crew, knowing he has nowhere else to go. Hesitantly, the Doctor agrees.

Doctor Who (New Series) - Part 78 "Rose"

In 2005, the Doctor Who series was once again relaunched. In the first episode we greet Rose who works for a department store. As she's delivering lottery money to Wilson, she's surprised to find mannequins walking about. What she takes as a college pranks turns out to be an invasion of the Autons. An old foe of the Doctor, who rescues here minutes before he blows up the department store to destroy an Auton relay, sitting on top of the building.

Not much is known this Doctor. There is no explanation what has transpired with him between his last incarnation and this one. We are only given a hint he has recently regenerated as he looks into a mirror to examine himself. He seems satisfied with his current looks, despite the ears. After Rose's encounter with the Doctor, he's forced to track her down as an arm from a disabled mannequin is still active. Using his sonic screwdriver, he deactivates it and tries to say goodbye, once again, to Rose.

As the Doctor leaves her apartment, Rose is intrigued by his actions and follows him. He explains to her about the situation at hand, the Autons are an alien invasion, but Rose continues to listen despite her inability to believe it. Once again the Doctor dismisses her, but when she hears the Tardis take off, she runs back and is surprised to see the 'Blue Box' is now gone. She stops by her boyfriends house to use his computer and finds an internet guy named Clive who seems to have some information regarding the Doctor. He explains to Rose he thinks the Doctor is an alien and dangerous. This information is too much for her and she leaves, believing he's a 'nutter'.

Unaware to rose, her boyfriend Mickey has been replaced with a plastic version. He takes her out for pizza, but suddenly he only wants to talk about the Doctor. Rose tells him she doesn't know anything but the Doctor suddenly appears and exposes Mickey as an imposter. He grabs his head and pulls it off, but the Auton goes berzerk and chases Rose and the Doctor out of the restaurant. The Doctor calmly walks into the Tardis, but Rose is apprehensive. With no where else to go, she follows the Doctor into the Tardis. He sets the Tardis in motion, using the Auton head to track down the lair of the Nestene, which is what controls the Autons.

Inside the Tardis, Rose is distraught her boyfriend is likely dead. Considering the Doctor dismisses him so quickly doesn't help the matter. Once the Tardis lands, the Doctor realizes the Nestene must be using a large dish smack dab in the middle of London to boost it's signal to so many Autons. He's perplexed to wonder what it might be when Rose indicates it's possibly the London Eye. The Doctor takes Rose with him to inspect and they indeed find the Nestene, as well as Mickey, who has been retained in case another copy of him might be needed.

The Doctor tries to reason with the Nestene but when they find a vial of anti-plastic, they assume his sole mission is to destroy them. He argues it was only insurance but the Autons retain him. The Doctor shouts for Rose to escape with Mickey, but instead she risks her life to save the Doctor. While doing so, the vial falls into the Nestene, which destroys it. After dropping Rose and Mickey back at home, the Doctor asks her to travel with him, impressed with her courage. Mickey is not invited, because of his snivelling attitude. Rose kisses Mickey goodbye and runs for the Tardis.
