Dr. Who (The Early Years) - Part 69 "The Sixth Doctor In Review"

Notes: After having saved Peri from Spectrox Toxaemia poisoning, the Doctor was saved from death by regenerating. However, this regeneration 'felt different' and he went slightly mad, even attempting to strangle his current companion, Peri. As he starts to recover, he decides he may need to become a hermit, but becomes involved in another adventure. Once resolved, the Doctor begins to work on the Tardis. Like the fourth Doctor, he attempts to fix the Chameleon Circuit. The fix seems to work, but still does not operate properly. In theory it's supposed to make the Tardis blend in with its surroundings, but it's still failing to do this. Ultimately, it returns to it's Police Box state and the Doctor refused to fix it after that. On one of his next adventures with Peri, he arrives at a station where he finds evidence that he was possibly killed in the past and he may be living currently as a paradox. Upon further investigation, he finds Jamie, a previous companion of his who claims his Doctor was captured. With the help of Jamie and Peri, the Doctor is able to track down his former, second persona and both return to their proper place in time. More danger awaits the Doctor as his old enemy the Master teams up with another renegade Timelord, the Rani.As always, the Doctor is able to overcome their evil schemes. As far as renegade Timelords go, neither the Master nor the Rani turn out to be his Ultimate Foe. The Doctor discovers this when he finds himself put on trial once more. The prosecutor, the Valeyard, is bent on convicting the Doctor and hopes to have him put to death. The Valeyard is almost successful till the Doctor receives help from an unusual source. The Master has decided to come to the Doctor's aide, mostly because he wants the honour of killing the Doctor. The Master also reveals the Valeyard is actually an amalgamation of all the negative aspects of the Doctor. With the help of rogue Glitz and future companion Melanie, the Doctor is able to defeat the Valeyard. All charges against the Doctor are dropped and he departs the station to return Mel to her proper place in time. At some point in the (untelevised) future, the Doctor naturally meets up with Melanie, who is his companion when his Tardis is high-jacked by the Rani. The violent nature in which the Tardis is high-jacked results in the Doctor regenerating, though Mel is unharmed.

Notes: Having only one televised adventure with the Doctor, Peri suddenly finds herself with a complete new Doctor. Despite this, she puts up with the Doctors erratic persona, even after he attempts to strangle her. Her thirst for adventure is soon rewarded when she meets one of the Doctor's oldest enemies, the Cybermen. Prior to discovering the Cybermen, Peri is with the Doctor when he attempts to fix the Tardis' Chameleon Circuit. In her next adventure, Peri meets Sil, a disturbing slug-like creature that thinks she is hideous, even for a human. Sil attempts to change her physically and alters her DNA so she resembled a bird-like creature. But the Doctor is able to reverse the effects. Peri is also one of the few companions to have met three or more of the Doctor's regenerations. During the course of one adventure, she meets his second incarnation, as well as a previous companion Jamie. In addition to the Cybermen, Peri also meets the Daleks and Davros.In the far future, the Doctor takes Peri to Ravolox, which turns out to be Earth in disguise. Peri realizes this when they find an old abandoned Underground station. During her final adventure with the Doctor, she once again meets Sil. This time Sil has the brain of his superior placed within her. Just as the Doctor is sorting out matters, he is pulled from time and space by the Timelords. At first he's led to believe Peri is killed when King Yrcanos (whom has claimed Peri as his consort) discovers her mind replaced with that of Kiv. Only later does the Doctor learn Peri recovers and goes on to be King Yrcanos' consort.

Notes: Mel has a confusing origin with the Doctor. In her first televised episode, we are looking into the Doctor's future, via the Gallifreyan Matrix. So this first episode is AFTER she already met the Doctor. Once the trial has been concluded, the Doctor returns her to her proper place in time. It's unclear at what point the Doctor actually meets her for (from her viewpoint) the first time. Even so, we do know a bit about her (like her ability to scream). Before arriving on the Hyperion III, Melanie was attempting to get the Doctor 'fit'. Her regimen included physical fitness and carrot juice (something the Doctor detested). As some point after this, she is brought to the Timelord station where the Doctor is on trial. The Doctor finds out the Master was responsible for sending him the help. When the Timelords seems unable (or unwilling) to help the Doctor in the Matrix, she runs in to save his life.With her help, the Doctor uncovers the plot of the Valeyard.Once this is complete, the Doctor ushers her back into the Tardis to take her back to the place the Master acquired her from. She is still travelling with the Doctor when he regenerates.

Dr. Who (The Early Years) - Part 66 "Mindwarp"

As further evidence against the Doctor, the Valeyard reveals another example of the Doctors meddling. This time, the Doctor and Peri are visiting Thoros Beta, the home world of Sil; a creature they previously met. (Vengeance on Varos) Last time, Sil turned Peri into a half-bird creature. The Doctor is on the planet investigating how a warrior race acquired advanced technology. But it isn't long before they are captured and identified by Sil.

As the Doctor is being interrogated, he's rescued when another prisoner, (King Yrcanos; played by Brian Blessed) escapes and wrecks havoc in the science lab. He frees the Doctor and all three escape. They then run into Dorf, Yrcanos' companion, who has been experimented on by the mad scientist Crozier. He's now more of a dog/wolf-like creature.


With his swiss-cheesed brain, the Doctor is having problem remembering events the way the matrix is showing the rest of the court room. So he's surprised to watch himself betray both King Yrcanos and Peri. King Yrcanos swears vengeance on the treacherous Doctor, who has now sided with Sil and Crozier. Crozier's aim is to remove the mind of the dying leader Kiv, to that of another body. The Doctor announces to the court, though he can't remember, it was likely a ploy to discover more information.

King Yrcanos soon gets his chance to avenge himself on the Doctor but is thwarted by Peri, who refuses to see the Doctor die. She's uncertain of why the Doctor turned on them, but knows he's a good guy. Yrcanos is confused, but soon forgives Peri when he discovers an underground movement to rebel against Kiv and Sil. Yrcanos believes it will be a glorious fight, but they are soon captured.

The mind transplant is successful, to some degree. It works, but has to be perfected. Crozier is determined to try one more time, under pain of death (or so decreed by Kiv). When Crozier makes it know he wishes to use Peri, the Doctor is given the option of finding a better candidate. As the Doctor heads off to a slave conversion room, Crozier orders Peri brought to him anyway, unbeknownst to the Doctor.

The Doctor next goes to release the King Yrcanos and the rest, but Peri is already gone. Though he has sworn to kill the Doctor, Yrcanos agrees to let the Doctor live and accept his help. As the fighting commences, Dorf is killed in battle. Making their way to free Peri, the Doctor is suddenly drawn out of time and space by the Time Lords, which is how he appeared at the beginning of the first Trial Story. The Doctor demands to know why they pulled him out of space and time at such a crucial time.

This time the Inquisitor informs the Doctor of the reason. The High Council of the Time Lords felt things had gotten out of hand and that Croziers experiments could alter the balance of the universe. Having frozen King Yrcanos in time temporarily, the Doctor is shocked to learn the Time Lords are using him as an executioner. But the biggest shock of all is when the Doctor sees Crozier has successfully implanted Kiv's mind into that of Peri. The Time Lords then release King Yrcanos who goes on to exterminate everyone in the room, including Peri (Whom ). The Doctor refuses to believe it, but knows the Matrix can not lie.

Dr. Who (The Early Years) - Part 65 "The Mysterious Planet"

Drawn by an unknown force, the Doctor's Tardis is brought to a station in space. Oddly, he no longer has Peri with him. Seeing the only door available to him, he walks into a courtroom. The High Council of Gallifrey is putting the Doctor on trial once again at the behest of the Valeyard, a character bent on finding the Doctor guilty of serious crimes of intervening in other planets affairs. The Doctor claims that as President of Gallifrey, he can't be put on trial. He's then informed because he refused to return to Gallifrey, he was deposed. Reluctantly, the Doctor sits down, allowing the trial to continue.

The Valeyard is utilizing the Matrix to illustrate the point of how the Doctor willingly gets over involved in the affairs of others. Using a visualizer in the courtroom, we see the Doctor and Peri materialize on a mysterious planet. The Doctor says the planet is named Ravalox and was to have been destroyed by a fireball, but it's evidently not true. To add further mystery, it's the same size and angle as the Earth. As they continue to investigate, they are being watched by a pair of rouges who want to kill the Doctor, claiming they hate 'competitors'. The man in charge is Sabalom Glitz, a mercenary.

As the matrix continues to follow Glitz and his companion, it bleeps out phrases of their speech to which the Doctor cries fowl. The Inquisitor allows the edited version for now, turning back to the visualizer. The Doctor and Peri have split up when they discover an abandoned "Marble Arch" underground station, which seems to confirm to the Doctor this is actually the planet Earth. As he continues to investigate Peri is captured by a local tribe who have also captured Sabalom Glitz and partner. Meanwhile, the Doctor is captured by the underground dwellers who think he's stealing water. After being stoned, he manages to escape and is also captured by the outside tribe. But there is an 'immortal' living below who wants the Doctor recaptured so he sends a L1 robot to recapture him. While the Doctor is captured, Peri and Glitz are able to escape.

While underground, the Doctor meets Drathro, a robot designed to help maintain order in the facility, but has gone a little mental. And when the Doctor tries to tell it, a faulty black light converter needs to be shut down before there is a cosmos shattering explosion, Drathro refuses to let him do so, realizing that means it will cease to function.

After destroying the L1 robot, Katryca, leads the rest of her tribe into the underground station to steal the secrets within. They believe the service robot was in fact the immortal. Before too long, she realizes her mistake when she storms into Drathro's lair where he kills her by electrocution. Drathro orders everyone else outside to awate being 'culled'. They obediently do as they are told. This gives the Doctor one last chance to disable the converter, but still fails to do so.

Trying once more, this time with Glitz' help, the Doctor is able to stop the catastrophe. Glitz has tricked Drathro into thinking he can support it with black light from his ship. Realistically though, Glitz was trying to steal away the secrets Drathro was carrying. When the Doctor averts most of the explosion, Drathro is destroyed, taking the secrets Glitz so desperately wanted. The crisis is averted, and back in the courtroom, the Doctor gleefully says he's won the case because he averted the destruction of the universe. But the Valeyard contents his meddling possible initiated it and has one more case to show the court.

Who is the Valeyard, and why is he so determined to see the Doctors demise?

Dr. Who (The Early Years) - Part 64 "The Two Doctors"

The Doctor and Jamie have temporarily departed from Victoria as they set out on a mission from the Timelords. Detecting dangerous time experiments, the Timelords have unofficially sent the Doctor to see what he can do to halt the experiments. The Doctor hopes it's a mission that'll go over easy. But despite knowing the station director, Dastari refuses to halt the experiments. To make matters worse, Dastari is collaborating with a pair of Androgums. Shockeye, being a chef, wants nothing more than to taste the succulent Jamie, but Chessene has been genetically enhanced by Dastari and she has a higher calling. She is working with the Sontarans to finalize the work on a Time Machine, and allows the fleet to enter the station, seemingly killing everyone on board.

Four regenerations later, the Doctor is harmlessly fishing with Peri when he realizes something is wrong. He receives a vision of his second incarnation being tortured to death. Peri suggests he see a Doctor so they travel to the science station Chimera, where Dastari is from. Arriving, they notice the stench of death in the air. Trying to determine what has happened, they encounter the only survivor, Jamie McCrimmon. The Doctor enters a trance and tries to telepathically connect to his former self to see where he was taken. A few minutes later, the Doctor, Peri and Jamie set off for Seville, Spain.

The Sontarans have persuaded the trio of Chessene, Dastari and Shockeye to Earth to finalize the Time Experiments. With the captured Doctor, they hope to harvest the symbiotic nuclei from within his cells, which is what makes time travel possible for the Timelords. Wisely, the Doctor refuses to help in the search. Dastari is saddened it's the Doctor he has to extract the nuclei from, but continues. With the augmentations he's given to Chessene, he hopes to put her 'among the gods'. The Doctor scoffs and says no matter how many augments she's received, she'll always have her true barbaric, animalistic tendencies.

As Dastari readies his equipment to search through the Doctor, Stike grows impatient. He tries to persuade the Doctor to give up the location of his nuclei, for the greater good of the Sontaran army. Realizing how high-strung the Sontaran is, the Doctor tries to enrage him, but fails. Stike turns his attention next to Dastari and threatens him to hurry up, but he's unable to convince him either. Dastari knows it's a bluff because he's needed alive, to perform the operation on the Doctor.

Arriving at the Spanish Hacienda, the Sixth Doctor sends Peri in to divert everyone from the basement while he and Jamie take a look around. Hearing Stike approach, the Doctor tricks him into thinking he can make the Time Machine operational immediately. Using Jamie as a threat, the Doctor is forced to prime the Time Machine, which he obediently does. Jamie and the Doctor are able to escape when Jamie stabs him with a knife. But the Sontarans are unable to test the primed Time Machine as Chessene betrays them and kills Varl and injures Stike with Coronic Acid. Stike manages to survive and hobbles to the Time Machine but finds out it's defective. He then remembers he ordered his Spaceship to self destruct thinking he was going to use the Time Machine to rejoin his fleet. He returns to stop the destruction, but is too late and killed in the blast.

In a change of plan, Chessene now instructs Dastari to create a consort for him using the Doctor as a template and infusing him with Shockeye's Androgum DNA. The operation is successful but when Shockeye awakes, he's enraged till the Second Doctor awakes and tantalizes him with descriptions of the local cuisine. Having been thwarted in his attempts to prepare and eat both Jamie and Peri, Shockeye is tempted and follows the Second Doctor to town. Over 80% Androgum now, the Doctor's thoughts are as primitive as the Shockeye's and can think of nothing better than to sate his stomach.

Chessene and Dastari set off to find the pair because if the Doctor isn't stabilized within the hour, his body will reject the Androgum DNA. But the Sixth Doctor, Peri and Jamie also set off to find the pair, hoping to keep the Second Doctor from transforming completely into an Androgum. The Doctor finally finds the Doctor after an hour has passed and his body quickly rejects the Androgum transmogrification. But Chessene also finds them and orders everyone back to the Hacienda at gunpoint. She ties up everyone else as Shockeye attempts once more to eat Jamie.

Working together, the Two Doctors manage to escape. The Sixth Doctor runs upstairs to rescue Jamie, but Shockeye finds him and cuts him. The Doctor runs away, leaving a trail of blood for Shockeye to follow. The Sixth Doctor eventually leads Shockeye into a trap and smothers him with a cyanide laced cloth, killing him. Dastari is revolted when he discovers Chessene's primal instincts kick back in when she falls to the ground, lapping up the Doctor's spilt blood. Realizing the Doctor was right all along, he finally sides with the Second Doctor. But Chessene kills him and tries to escape in the faux Time Machine. But the Doctor tricked Stike earlier and only primed the machine for a one time use. Having already been used, the machine blows up, killing Chessene. The Sixth Doctor is also happy to report, Shockey has met his just deserts.

Dr. Who (The Early Years) - Part 63 "The Twin Dilemma"

While the Doctor is still recovering from his regeneration, this episode begins with a set of highly intelligent twins working on computations. They are not surprised to discover their mother has gone out again, but are rather disappointed when their father goes out. Once they are left alone, a strange visitor stops by claiming to look for their father. They persuade him to leave, but he places hypnotic disks on their arms so they lose their memory. He has both of them grab his arms as he activates a teleportation ring and they disappear.

Inside the Tardis, the Doctor is having trouble stabilizing after his regeneration. He doesn't feel quite like himself and finds himself very paranoid. Stabilizing for a bit, he attempts a change of cloths, to which Peri find hideous. But the Doctor is also having fits of rage. During one such fit, he accuses Peri of being a spy and attempts to choke the life out of her. Peri succeeds in fending off the Doctor when she uses a mirror to blind him. The Doctor is barely able to apologize when again he destabilizes and claims Peri is a coward when she does not want to search for a survivor from a crashed ship they discover.

Peri thinks no one could have survived the ship wreck, so when the Doctor finds a survivor he degrades Peri for wanting to give up so quickly. They take the survivor to the Tardis, then go to investigate a building they see off in the distance. When they are captured, the Doctor hides behind Peri in terror and claims it was Peri's fault they are there. Taken inside, the Doctor meets Azmael, a fellow renegade Timelord and friend. The Doctor is shocked to discover Azmael barely remembers the Doctor and leaves him and Peri locked in a building which one of Azmael's lackeys rigs to detonate. Azmael seems to be involved in a radical plot, which is very unlike his nature.

Under pressure, the Doctor is able to use his wits to escape the exploding room. He safely teleports both of them back into the Tardis where a now conscious Hugo is waiting for answers. He's been investigating the disappearance of the twins and thinks the Doctor is involved. Peri is able to convince him they are innocent. Somewhat reluctantly, they team up to find who kidnapped the twins and why. The Doctor realizes his old chum Azmael is involved, but not sure to what degree. Initially he's furious, thinking Azmael knew about the explosion.

The real villain is a creature called Mestor whose been pressuring Azmael into helping. Azmael has agreed, thinking he's protecting the people of Jaconda. But Mestor's plans are more shocking than Azmael has bargained for. Mestor has a fully stocked armada of larva which can only hatch in intense heat. The Doctor shows Azmael that Mestor plans to explode the sun surrounding Jaconda in hopes of spreading the larva throughout the entire galaxy. Now knowing this, Azmael agrees to help the Doctor thwart Mestor's plans.

The problem is, Mestor is too well protected, as demonstrated when the Doctor tries to destroy him. Mestor's mental abilities put up a strong defense. To further prove his point, he places his own conscious inside Azmael's. This time it's Mestor who is tricked, as Azmael has distracted the gastropod long enough for the Doctor to attack his body once more. This time the attack works, but Azmael is killed int he process, having used up all his regenerations. As he dies, he tells the Doctor he does indeed remember the last time the two met.

Dr. Who (The Early Years) - Part 62 "The Fifth Doctor In Review"

Notes: While the Tardis was being operated by this Doctor, it had a more lived in feel. The Tardis had a trio of companions, then downgraded to two, but it still felt lived in, no matter how many companions were travelling with him. There were various scenes within the Tardis and some of the companions room were even seen. But things for the Doctor did not start off well. While he was technically still regenerating, he felt and acted different. Well, more different than he should have. Temporary post-regeneration amnesia set in and he was searing for the Doctor and forgot about one of his companions. To make matters worse, the Master had a trap set for the Doctor, in hopes of driving him completely insane. With the help of his companions he began to feel more like himself again, or at least what he felt he should be acting like considering the regeneration. For several adventures he travelled with three companions till he ran into the Cybermen once again. They were bent on destroying Earth where a conference was being held to find a solution to the Cybermen problem. Adric sacrificed himself to try and save the Earth. This was the first companion who died while he was with the Doctor since Katarina and Sara Kingdom. But there was no time to grieve as the Doctor ran straight into the Master once more. As always, the Doctor was able to defeat the Master but a bigger threat was soon to target the Doctor. In his earlier regeneration, the Doctor defeated the Black Guardian, an omnipotent being who vowed to kill the Doctor. The problem is, the Black Guardian was forbidden from killing the Doctor directly, so he employed someone Turlough. Turlough was convinced the Doctor was evil so attempted several times to kill the Doctor. But the more time he spent with the Doctor, the more he realized he was not told the truth. He finally decided not to kill the Doctor, but instead travel with him. So the double companions were a trio once more. But shortly after, Nyssa left the Tardis when she found a place that needed her. Once more, the Doctor ran into the Master. This time he was using a shape changing robot named Kamelion to impersonate King John, in hopes of stopping the Magna-Carta from being signed. It came down to a battle of wits, where the Doctor won, and took Kamelion away from the Master. Outside of the Masters influence, Kamelion was able to use his own personality and asked the Doctor if he would be able to travel with him as well. The Doctor agreed and the double became a triple again; well sort of. In the next episode, there is no mention of Kamelion. For the very next adventure the Doctor was drawn back to Gallifrey where he was reunited with the Doctor, the Doctor and the Doctor. Three earlier incarnations of the Doctor had been drawn to the Death Zone by a high ranking member of Gallifreyan society. Also drawn to the Death Zone along with the Doctor was his grand-daughter Susan, the Brigadier & Sarah Jane Smith. Once the mission was complete, Turlough and Tegan continued to travel with the Doctor, and Kamelion was still not seen. In the next adventure the Doctor had with the Daleks, Tegan had had enough and decided to leave the Tardis. She told the Doctor it stopped being fun. Next to leave was Turlough. The Tardis picked up a distress signal from Turlough's home planet and Turlough did everything he could to ignore the call and tried to stop the transmission from reaching the Tardis. The Doctor discovered this however and realized Turlough must be in trouble with his home planet for some reason. But the Tardis was pre-set and both realized Kamelion (who WAS still on the Tardis) had reset the controls. Once again, the Doctor was facing the Master who still had control of Kamelion. But the Master's plans were foiled first by Peri, a person Turlough earlier saw drowning and brought her aboard to recuperate, and then by Kamelion himself who begged the Doctor to destroy him. The Doctor reluctantly destroyed Kamelion, but Peter Davison was happy to do so. The Kamelion prop was difficult to control and everyone on the production hated used it. That was the reason it was not featured in many stories. Once the adventure was complete, the Turlough went back to his home planet after he was told he was no longer a political prisoner. Telling the Doctor she was already planning to travel, Peri asked the Doctor if she could travel with him instead of being dropped off back at home. The Doctor agreed. But the next adventure changed everything. The Doctor and Peri contracted a disease and the only antidote was limited and the Doctor was only able to acquire enough for Peri. The Doctor gambled, and hoped, he would regenerate - he did.

Notes: Adric was with the Doctor when he regenerated and tried as best he could to help him recover. But Adric was captured by the Master and replied with a projection of himself. The projection was being used to set-up the Doctor and hopefully kill him. But the projection was linked to Adric who used every ounce of his strength to resist the Master. Adric finally resisted enough and the Doctor was able to rescue him from the Master. But life on board the Tardis was suddenly very difficult for Adric. With Tegan and Nyssa on board, Adric felt less and less a part of the group and often thought he was ignored. He tried to convince the Doctor there was a way for him to return to his home in E-Space but the Doctor refused to listen and they had an argument. Later, they were able to make up and Adric admitted he didn't really want to go home. But this adventure involved the Cybermen who were trying to destroy Earth. Adric found himself on a doomed ship headed for Earth. He was able to break a few of the controls the Cybermen set up, but the instability drew the ship off-course. But only through time. Instead of hitting earth in the future as it was supposed to, it did so 65,000,000 years in the past. Effectively killing off the dinosaurs. Adric was still on-board when the ship hit and was killed on impact. Though some speculate he actually survived the crash of the ship only long enough to be eaten by a dinosaur.

Notes: Travelling with the Doctor must have been difficult for Nyssa every time they met the Master. The Master effectively stole her fathers body, killing him. Nyssa also ran into another doppelgänger, someone who looked exactly like her on Earth. Nyssa was a member of the Tardis crew when Adric died, and despite the grief the group felt, she had to put that aside when they ran into the Master once more. Calm and collective, Nyssa was a voice of reason in the Tardis. She was even willing to give Turlough the benefit of the doubt, when Tegan complained there was something not right about him. It was after she contracted the deadly Lazar's disease when she finally decided her life on the Tardis had come to an end. Finally finding a place that needed her and her skills, she opted to leave the Doctor and spent time on a leaper ship to help find a refined cure for the deadly disease.

Notes: Though having just met the Doctor, Tegan was with him after he regenerated. Initially she insisted he return her back home in hopes of continuing her stewardess job. Just after Adric died, she actually got a taste of what her stewardess job would be like when she essentially performed the duties on board a concord, which had been displaced in time. She also had a traumatic experience while travelling with the Doctor when an alien entity known as the Mara invaded and took control of her body. For a short time, she was left on Earth at Heathrow when the Doctor assumed she wanted to remain behind, but vacationing in Amsterdam she ran into him again. She rejoined the Doctor and this time stopped demanding he return her home. It was a good thing she did so because soon it was discovered the Mara had not been totally destroyed and still lingered within her. With the Doctors help, the Mara was once again destroyed, seemingly forever. During the adventure Turlough joined the crew, she met the Brigadier and later met him again when the Tardis was drawn to Gallifrey in the Death Zone. Her initial thoughts of Turlough were essentially true, but there was more to Turlough than meets the eye. Eventually she had to accept Turlough as a travelling companion and even learned to like him, though she always seemed to keep an eye on him. When Tegan met up with the Daleks, she saw many deaths including a person she began to regard as a friend. With all the death and destruction involved, Tegan realized she stopped having fun with the Doctor. Tearfully she ran away from the Tardis and the Doctor. But she did admit she was going to miss him.

Notes: Turlough was an alien, living in exile while on Earth. As a cover, he was attending a boys school which he utterly hated. Quite the rascal, he got into trouble every chance he could. He became involved with the Doctor when he stole the Brigadiers car, who was now retired from Unit and working at the boys school. While unconscious, he was approached by the Black Guardian who made him an offer. If he destroyed the Doctor, the Black Guardian would take Turlough away from Earth. Of course one of the main reasons Turlough reluctantly agreed was because the Black Guardian told him the Doctor was evil. Despite many opportunities, Turlough failed in his mission to kill the Doctor when he started to realize the Black Guardian had lied to him. The Black Guardian gave Turlough one last chance, but still refused to kill or betray the Doctor. The Black Guardian swore vengeance on Turlough. With his affinity toward the Doctor exposed, the Doctor allowed Turlough to continue to follow him. If Tegan distrusted Turlough before, she certainly distrusted him now. But that gradually faded over time. Still travelling with the Doctor, Turlough was able to visit Gallifrey and also ran into the Master; at one point keeping him at bay with a sword. When Tegan left, he was sorry to see her go. As much as Tegan distrusted Turlough, Turlough distrusted Kamelion. While visiting Earth, Kamelion began acting up and a related transmission was discovered. While the Doctor was out trying to find the source of the transmission, Turlough was back at the Tardis. He was dealing with Kamelion and rescuing an Earth girl whom he saw drowning in the water outside. He ran out to rescue her and brought her into the Tardis to recover. But despite Turlough's attempts to stop Kamelion , Kamelion was able to steer the Tardis toward the planet Sarn where a crashed ship from Turlough's home planet Trion was. While on Sarn, the Doctor discovered Peri was on-board, and Kamelion was still being controlled by the Master. Once this adventure was finished, Turlough found out he was no longer a political prisoner and opted to return home with his new-found brother.

Notes: Kamelion was an attempt to bring the future to Doctor Who, but the robot used for Kamelion never truly worked the way it was expected. As a result, he only appeared in two stories, despite being five stories in-between. After being defeated by the Doctor, the Master was left stranded on ancient Xeriphas where he discovered Kamelion. Though Kamelion has a mind of his own, he's easily influenced and the Master can be very influential. Kamelion helped the Master impersonate King John to thwart the signing of the Magna Carta, but the plan was defused by the Doctor. The Doctor engaged the Master in a mind over matter where the Doctor won and had Kamelion transform into his companion Tegan. At which point he dragged Kamelion into the Tardis and away from the Master's influence. Unbeknownst to the Doctor, the Master was once again able to influence Kamelion which resulted in the Tardis being dragged to the planet Sarn. The Master needed Kamelion's help to restore the Master after he was accidentally hit with his own TCE. Kamelion decided he didn't want to be continually controlled by the Master and was too weak to resist any longer. He requested the Doctor destroy him before he did anything else wrong. The Doctor promptly complied to Kamelion's wishes and used the Master's TCE without haste.

Notes: Perpugilliam, Peri for short, was trying to escape her step-father who had marooned her on a boat in an attempt to stop her from leaving for Morocco with some new found friends. But in an attempt to swim back to shore, she developed a cramp and began to drown. Fortunately, Turlough saw this and swam out to rescue her. While unconscious, Turlough brought her onto the Tardis, and forgot about her when the Tardis next took off. While on the Tardis, she met Kamelion who was now disguised as her step-father Howard. Once the Doctor and Turlough left the Tardis when they arrived to Sarn, Kamelion transformed into the Master. Confused, Peri tried to get away and was soon caught up in a battle between the Doctor and the Master. Realizing the Master was evil, she sided with the Doctor and asked to accompany him. The Doctor reluctantly agreed. The very next adventure, both contracted a deadly disease with only one known cure. With only enough antidote for one person, the Doctor selflessly gave it all to Peri, saving her life. The Doctor hoped he would regenerate, and he did. This stunned and shocked Peri. She currently is still travelling with the Doctor.

Dr. Who (The Early Years) - Part 61 "The Caves of Androzani"

The Doctor arrives on Androzani Minor, with his new companion Peri. Investigations begin immediately as they discover tracks leading off to a cavern. As they investigate, the Doctor explains why he's wearing the celery on his jacket. He's allergic to certain gasses and in their presence, the celery will turn purple. As they continue to explore, Peri falls into a web-like substance. The Doctor brushes it off and tells her not to worry, as it's likely to be harmless. They continue to explore until they suddenly find a cache of weapons. It's then they run into General Chellak who accuses them of gun running. The Doctor tries to explain their innocence but Chellak has a duty to do and though not liking to do so, he orders their execution.

Though it seems they are executed, the Doctor and Peri are saved. While waiting for execution, they were rescued by Sharaz Jek, who replaced them with realistic androids. Sharaz Jek is who General Chellak is fighting against because Jek is hording a supply of Spectrox, a substance which, when refined, can prolong life. Infatuated with Peri, Jek's aim was to supply the Spectrox to her and prolong her life, and beauty. It was Jek's guns General Chellak earlier found Peri and the Doctor with.

The Doctor and Peri aren't the only humans keeping Sharaz Jek compnay. Also prisoner is Major Salateen, who currently has an android double working for General Chellak. All three are held prisoner by Jek's security androids, programmed to shoot anyone trying to escape. Feeling his days may be numbered now that Jek has two new humans to keep him company, he breaks out into laughter when he realizes the Doctor and Peri are suffering from Spectrox Toxaemia and are dying. Though they refuse to believe so, Salateen says there is no cure. He can't wait to see the look on Jek's face when he realizes Peri is dying.

Not being human, the Doctor decides to risk escaping and is delighted to find out the android is not programmed to shoot non-humans. His escape is short lived however when he's captured by Stotz, the gun runner for Sharaz Jek. But Stotz is also working for Morgus, the head of the Sirius Conglomerate, the distributors of Spectrox. Morgus is also responsible for the disfigurement of Sharaz Jek. Wanting full control of the Spectrox again, he joins Stotz on Androzani Minor, but he is betrayed by his personal assistant who tells the government of all his illegal dealings. Being on equal terms now, Morgus reluctantly agrees to Stotz demands they split the Spectrox equally.

While being held captive, the Doctor crashes Stotz's ship back on the planet and escapes. He manages to make his way back to Jek and learns there is a cure for the Spectrox Toxaemia. All he needs to do is collect milk from the rare Spectrox bat. While he's collecting the antidote, there is a full out battle between Sharaz Jek, Morgus, Stotz
Major Salateen and General Chellak; no one survives. Once back, the Doctor collects Peri and carries her back to the Tardis. In a rush, he accidentally spills a portion of the bat's milk. Not sure if he'll regenerate or not, the Doctor gives whatever is left of the antidote to Peri. She quickly recovers, but Spectrox Toxaemia forces the Doctor into a regeneration.

Dr. Who (The Early Years) - Part 60 "Planet of Fire"

The Doctor is obsessed and depressed about the Daleks, and Tegan leaving. Turlough tries to comfort him when the pair hear a scream from within the Tardis. As you'll recall, he joined the Tardis several episodes ago, but this is the first time we've seen him since. Kamelion has plugged himself into the Tardis computer databank, and is suddenly mentally unstable. The Doctor has Turlough run an alpha rhythm into the Tardis to calm Kamelion. That's when Turlough discovers the Tardis is receiving a distress signal from a Trion ship, his home planet. Quickly he tries to disable the signal.

Meanwhile on Earth, Howard is an archaeologist who finds an odd item among some ruins. Before he can investigate further he's approached by his step-daughter, Peri. She's bored out of her mind and wants to follow some friends she just met to Morocco. Thinking it's a bad idea, he strands her on his boats so she'll miss her flight. Spotting the strange device, and hoping it's worth money, Peri grabs the object found by Howard and attempts to swim to shore. Halfway there, she develops a cramp and starts to drown. While the Doctor is out, Turlough notices she's in danger and rescues her, bringing her into the Tardis to recover from almost drowning.

In a third location, the planet Sarn is a fire planet where the religious official Timanov believes their god Logar demands a sacrifice. To do so, he tries to convince Malkon into giving the sacrificial order. Timanov believes Malkon is the chosen one because he has a strange triangle marking on his arm. Ironically, it's the same marking as the device Peri jumped off the boat with. Back on the Tardis Turlough notices the symbol and pulls his sleeve up, revealing a similar marking on his arm.

Tracing the signal from the device, the Doctor makes his way back to the Tardis, where he discovers Turlough trying to dispose of the device. The Doctor takes the device away and follows the source back to Sarn. The Doctor is unaware of Peri in the other room until she stumbles out along with Kamelion who is now disguised as her step-dad Howard. Once arriving on Sarn, he and Turlough leave to do some exploring. Kamelion takes control of the Tardis and morphs into the Master. As Kamelion tries to regain control of himself, Peri grabs a component from the Tardis and runs off. once stable as the Master, Kamelion goes out in search of Peri. Hoping to catch her before she finds the Doctor. He corners Peri but she threatens to drop the Tardis component if the Master doesn't keep his distance. Peri calls for Kamelion to show himself once again and while he fights the Master for control, Peri escapes.

Kamelion/The Master finds the Doctor first and he insists to know where Peri is. The Doctor is unwilling to cooperate, despite the Master now having the natives on his side. They capture the Doctor and imprison him. That's when Peri shows up. She tries to get Kamelion to show himself again, but the Masters will is much stronger. He grabs Peri and has the others follow him. He uses them to free his Tardis which has been covered over by falling rocks. He then drags Peri inside to force her to work for him. He brings out a box and opens it up, but what's inside terrifies Peri and she knocks it over. It's a miniaturized Master. At some point prior to the story, the Masters weapon misfired and he was hit by the blast. Peri tries to capture him but he escapes into the Tardis console. Finally he opens his Tardis door, allowing her to leave.

While Turlough discovers Malkon is his brother and calls for a Trion rescue ship before the planet destorys itself, the Doctor realizes what the Master is after. He's attempting to restore himself with the planets blue flames which have healing properties. But while the Master was trapped in his Tardis, he set a trap and when sprung, it once again frees Kamelion of the Masters control. But the control is only temporary and he feels the Master regaining control. Instead of having the Master control him, Kamelion pleads for the Doctor to destroy him, which the Doctor does, using the Masters TCE.

With Kamelion now destroyed, the Doctor now needs to deal with the Master who is being revived by the blue flames. But something goes wrong and the blue flames dies away and the master is engulfed in the harmful flames. He begs for the Doctor's help but the Doctor does nothing. Pleading, the Master says "Won't you show mercy to your own..." then he dissolves, seeming destroyed. Horrified, the Doctor leaves the Mater to his fate where he discovers Turlough is leaving him. He's no longer a political refuge. But already wanting to do some traveling, Peri requests to join the Doctor on his travels. He agrees, but says it's only for three months.
