Dr. Who (The Early Years) - Part 72 "Silver Nemesis"

Doctor Who's 25th Anniversary Episode

It's Windsor, 1638. Lady Peinforte and her companion Richard Maynarde are in search of a Silver statue known as Nemesis. In an earlier untelevised adventure she met the seventh Doctor where she learned the secret of who he really is, his planet Gallifrey and the components of the Nemesis statue - Validium. Validium is a sentient metal created by Omega and Rassilon as a defence for Gallifrey. Somehow, some of this metal fell to Earth and was discovered by Lady Peinforte. She formed the metal into a statue of herself, and the statue told her of Gallifrey and some rudimentary secrets of time. Armed with those secrets and the Silver Arrow, she concocts a potion to transport her in time to 1988 to redezvous with the Statue.

 

In 1988, a group of neo-nazi's, led by De Flores,  are also searching for the Nemesis statue. Through uncertain contacts, they have found out an 'asteroid' containing the statue will be arriving on Earth in Windsor. Hoping to utilize the power, the Nazi's travel from South Africa to Windsor to acquire the statue. They have in their possession the Silver Bow, which given to the statue along with the Silver Arrow, will allow them to control the living metal. Whoever is in control of the Nemesis can then manipulate all of time and space.   

As the Doctor becomes involved, Ace strives to figure out what is really going on, but as per usual the Doctor is keeping his secrets. Right from the beginning they are under fire from an unknown force. They run into De Flores who immediately orders Ace's execution. But she's saved when a space craft flies overhead. Ace is thankful to whoever just "saved her life", but the Doctor tells her she'll likely live to regret it. The ship lands and Cybermen pour out of the ship, they too are looking for the Nemesis.

The Cybermen open fire, immediately decimating many of the Nazi troops. From the outskirts, Lady Peinforte fires upon the Cybermen with her arrows and is delighted to find they are effective, despite the Nazi bullets which seem to have no effect on the Cybermen. But her arrow-heads are crafted in gold, the one substance lethal to the Cybermen. With this revelation, she withdraws hoping the Nazi's and Cybermen fight each other to the death. During the course of the battle, the Doctor secretly steals the bow away from the Nazi's and the Cybermen take control of the Nemesis once it hits ground. Lady Peinforte still has the Silver Arrow.

Still believing they have the Silver Bow, De Flores forges an unsteady alliance with the Cybermen. De Flores' selling point is he and his men are immune to whatever is afflicting the Cybermen, he's unaware the gold tipped arrows are the problem. With the alliance cast, both go their separate way, though vowing to destroy the other side first chance they get. Meanwhile, Lady Peinforte is convinced she will shortly be in possession of the Silver Bow and the Nemesis. Drunk on the prospect of potential power, she begins to go mad.

Once finding the Nemesis, Lady Peinforte primes it by giving it the Silver Arrow. She believes she can easily acquire the Silver Bow and be in full control, but the Cybermen discover her and she is forced to flee. At this point, De Flores discovers he is no longer in possession of the Silver Bow, which had been stolen by the Doctor. The Cybermen dissolve the temporary alliance. De Flores claims they still need him because the Doctor will not just walk in and hand them the bow. No sooner said than done, the Doctor walks in and offers the Cybermen the Silver Bow. But it's a stalling tactic and the Doctor actually hands the Nemesis the bow, then departs as quickly as he came in, taking the Silver Bow with him.

Now that the Nemesis is fully primed, it will follow the Silver Bow. The Doctor makes his way towards an abandoned warehouse where the Cybermen have stored the "asteroid" or rocket the Nemesis fell to Earth in. Armed with some gold coins and a slingshot, Ace protects the Doctor, destroying all Cybermen that get in her way while the Doctor programmes the Nemesis to leave Earth and destroy a massive Cyber Invasion Fleet. With the Cybermen dispatched, De Flores tries to take control. But the Cyber Leader was not destroyed as Ace had hoped and kills De Flores and his last remaining man.

Lady Peinforte re-enters the scene now, still completely drunk on her potential power. She orders the Doctor to give her the Bow. The Doctor refuses so she threatens to tell the Cybermen all about the Doctor, who he really is. Not persuaded, the Doctor ignores her demand and hands the Silver Bow to a surprised Cyber Leader. The Cyber Leader reveals he doesn't care about the Doctor's origin, he only wanted the Silver Nemesis and the ultimate power. He orders the Doctor to dismiss his last command to the Nemesis and have it rendezvous with the Cyber Fleet. The Doctor asks the Nemesis if it understood the order and it says it does. The Doctor then sends it on it's way. But driven insane knowing she is not to have the ultimate power, Lady Peinforte jumps into the rocket with the Nemesis and merges with it, leaving her faithful companion behind. The Cyberleader orders they watch as the Nemesis is delivered to the Cyber Fleet. But the Doctor has tricked the Cybermen. He only asked the Nemesis if it understood the order, which it did, he didn't order the Nemesis to follow the instructions. Meeting up with the Cyber Fleet, the Nemesis destroys it. Wishing to take revenge on the Doctor, the Cyber Leader attempts to eradicate him. Realizing he can save the Doctor, Richard grabs a gold tipped arrow which had previously been shot at the Tardis, and drives it into the Cyber Leader, destroying it. The Doctor agrees to take Richard home.

Dr. Who (The Early Years) - Part 54 "Arc of Infinity"

After finally dropping Tegan off at Heathrow airport, Nyssa and the Doctor are busy doing some repairs to the Tardis. He fixes the audio on the scanner when Nyssa suggests fixing other features of the Tardis, such as the Tardis' state of temporal grace. It's then they notice a 'massive source of magnetic radiation' targeting the Tardis. It enters the Tardis and attempts to bond with the Doctor. Though it's initial attempt fails, the Doctor realizes the danger is far from over. Especially when Nyssa points out the creature was comprised of anti-matter.

The Timelords of Gallifrey have noticed the bonding attempt and also realize how dangerous such a bond could be. They forceably recall the Doctors Tardis back to Gallifrey. The Tardis materializes in a locked room and the Doctor soon meets Maxil, one of the Chancellery guards. (Ironically, the character is played by Colin Baker who later goes on to play the Doctor in future stories.) Taking no chances, Maxil disables the Tardis.

Back on Earth, Tegan is on Holiday in Amsterdam. When she tries to meet her favourite cousin, she runs into his friend instead who claims he's missing. The story he tells is so fantastic, he can't even tell the police. Tegan however, is more ready to listen. Doing some of her own investigation she finds her cousin Colin, but he seems to be possessed. Tegan then finds out who is responsible for possession, it's the same creature who tried to bond with the Doctor. Scanning her brain, he discovers she's known to the Doctor. He decides to use her as bait against the Doctor.

Back on Gallifrey, the Doctor is sentenced to death to prevent another bonding with the creature. Borusa, the Castallen and the other Timelords of the High Council almost unanimously passed the decree, with only one person holding out, Hedin, a one time friend of the Doctor. Nyssa attempts to rescue the Doctor and pulls a gun on the High Council. The Doctor tries to put Nyssa at ease and takes the gun away from her. As a last wish, he requests the council overlook her zealous misplaced loyalty. The High council agree and place the Doctor in the disintegration booth. Nyssa watches in horror as the Doctor dissolves.

The Doctor has actually not been vaporized, but placed inside the Matrix. He discovers it's Omega who's trying to bond with him. Omega promises to release the Doctor if he promises not to try and stop him, but the Doctor says he'll do whatever he can to stop him. Currently Omegas Tardis is in Amsterdam and he's captured Tegan so he uses her as a hostage to get the Doctors loyalty. The Doctor finally admits he can't leave Gallifrey anyway. The Doctor is finally released and despite promising Omega, he tries to leave Gallifrey and head to Amsterdam thanks to Tegan boldly ignoring Omega's threats. Once out of the matrix, the Doctor learns his friend Hedin is working with Omega.

Hedin has laid evidence making it look like President Borusa is responsible for a previous murder and for working with Omega. When the Castellan finds the President he aims to arrest him. When he discovers the Doctor is still alive and with Borusa, he immediately sentences him to death and fires his weapon, but Hedin jumps in front of the blast, saving the Doctor. Borusa explains to the Castellan that Hedin was the traitor, not himself or the Doctor. Now knowing where Omega is, the Timelords help the Doctor escape Gallifrey without being detected by Omega.

The Timelords are just able to help the Doctor escape. Having landed in Amsterdam, the Doctor finds Omega and Tegan but Omega quickly escapes when his Tardis explodes. But he mentions the Doctor is too late and quickly escapes in a body that has bonded with normal space. Shaking the dust off, Nyssa and the Doctor, now with Tegan following along chase after Omega. They discover a man who's been killed and his clothes taken. The Doctor stresses how important it is to find Omega because his bond is not permanent.

It's not long before Omega also discovers his bond is not permanent. In blind fear, he tries to evade the Doctor and ultimately hopes to take the rest of the universe with him when he finally returns back to anti-matter and disperses. Fortunately the Doctor catches up with him and puts Omega out of his misery before he can explode, saving the universe and giving Omega the only freedom he can truly have. It's then Tegan mentions to Nyssa she was fired from her job so the Tardis is now stuck with her. Nyssa gives Tegan a hug, the Doctor doesn't look so pleased.

The Omega Men - Part 4 of 4

Wes and Wendell finished watching the exploits of Captain Jerk on the Starship Booby-Prize over an hour ago. They were now ready to embark on a new task.

“This is a great idea.” Wes told his brother Wendell

“I know. I’m glad we finally decided on what should be the focus of our first podcast. Initially I was thinking ‘Star Blech’, but somehow this idea is so much better.”

“I was thinking the same thing. And can’t wait to try this teleportation equipment to invite our guests in.”

"Where did you find it anyway?"

"What? I thought you brought this in?" The music for the first podcast began. "I guess we'll have to discuss this later, let's start our Omega Podcast."

Omega’s plans were proceeding as scheduled. He planted the idea into their heads and they would soon begin to air their transmissions. Unknown to them, the more guests they invited to their show, the more the equipment would drain his anti-energy away and displace it into their guests. Providing of course, they drew him in first as the imprint. In a way, it would be a special treat because he’d have a limited 5 minutes of freedom from his anti-universe as he was transported to their world. Then it would only be a matter of time before he shed enough of the anti-energies to make a full departure from his imprisonment. Suddenly, he felt a tug on his world and he was suddenly transported to Earth. The pair almost seemed grateful, which was a bit upsetting. He ultimately hoped they would fear him.

“You do not fear me.” Omega pointed out, almost forgetting he was forcing his will upon them to do what he required.

“No , you’re right. I don’t fear you.” Wes went on to prove the point by questioning Omega, riling him up (much like the second Doctor would do). Before long, Omega’s allotted time was used up and he was sent back to his anti-matter universe. Wes and Wendell exchanged a triumphant look with each other, as if they had a fantastic secret they withheld from Omega.

Things didn’t go quite as Omega imagined they would, but the deed was done. He was imprinted to the machine. From now on whenever they had a guest, the equipment would unknowingly draw anti-energy from Omega and impart a bit of it into the guests. So small it wouldn’t be noticed to them, but Omega would notice. Soon, enough of the anti-energy would have drawn away for him to make another attempt. Unless at some point the two were able to figure out what Omega was truly doing and sabotaging his attempt. It was a thought Omega had for a quick second before dismissing it. How could two Earth humans possibly figure that out, much less do something about it? No, his next attempt to escape would work.

The Omega Men – Epilogue
Years later, Omega’s actions were noticed by Hedin of Gallifrey. Hedin would have contacted a member of the High Council but with Omega’s mind heightened and intensified, it was easy to make Hedin believe he wanted to help. An added bonus was Hedin was an old friend of the Doctor and could extract his bio-data from the matrix. So Omega would have his revenge on the Doctor, and the Doctor would be betrayed from an old friend. It was a perfect plan and Omega knew nothing would go wrong this time.

The Omega Men – Part 3 of 4

“Wes, are you okay?” His brother stirred but failed to respond immediately. Wendell gave his brother an additional minute to snap out of his daze. “I think we’re not in Kansas anymore.”

Wes opened his eyes and looked around. They were in a holding cell. The walls were seamless with no apparent indication of a door or ventilation. “We were never in Kansas”, he pointed out. He paused and looked around once more, “But I get what you're saying.”

A voice boomed out, seemingly above them, “Welcome my guests. I mean you no harm. Please, come. I await your presence.” The voice was calm but insistent.

“Who are you, where are you?” Wendell called out. No one replied. Suddenly, a portion of a wall dissolved revealing a corridor beyond. “Do we go?”

“That or stay here. Maybe we'll find out what’s going on.” The two stepped through the make-shift door. As soon as they were through the wall it reformed as solid as it was before. The wall at the far end of the corridor dissolved suddenly, encouraging the two to head in that direction. This took place a few more times until finally a wall dissolved to a grand looking throne room. Sitting on the throne was what appeared to be a statue, but the statue spoke.

“Welcome to the world of Omega. You must have many questions.”

The pair looked at each other as if to say, ’Duh’.

“I am in need of assistance, and the two of you can help me.”

“What sort of help do you need?” Wes asked.

“And why do you need our help?” Wendell added.

“My reasoning’s are likely beyond your comprehension, but I am trapped in an anti-matter universe and I need to siphon off the energies before I can return to the physical universe. I can offer you power and prestige in exchange for your help.”

Wendell was skeptical, “I don’t know, I’ve got a bad feeling about this.”

Omega added, “And wealth”. A table with gold bricks appeared to the side of Omega.

“You had me at hello.” Wendell corrected himself.

Wes however, was less impressed. “How exactly did you bring us here? And what can we do to help you when you have so much power already?”

“I shall give you equipment to complete your tasks. All will work out as long as you obey me.”

“Obey?” Wes and Wendell both said together. They certainly didn’t like the tone.

“Do not anger me.” Omega shouted. “I command here, and if my will is for you to obey me, then you SHALL obey me.” The sound of thunder could be heard outside, as if the world became angry whenever Omega was angry. “BE GONE!” He shouted as he waved his hand at the pair. They disappeared, as did the equipment.

The Omega Men – Part 2 of 4

In the short span of 100 years since his rebirth Omega learned much and his expectations of leaving grew. He believed he found a way to leave his prison. In theory it was a simple task, if he could switch his consciousness with someone else, they would be trapped and he’d be free. Who better to try this on then the Doctor? But this was just a theory, Omega needed to put the plan into action. Because of the unique properties of the anti-matter world he lived in, it wasn’t a simple task to devise a psychgraft, transfer his consciousness and escape. He had to find a way to ‘lessen’ the intensity of the anti-energy surrounding his psyche before making another attempt. Omega was able to transport people to his world before, and he planned to do so again, this time for a different reason. Earth was the prime target for this sort of thing, many of its inhabitant’s craved adventure but never saw it. This made them easy prey to manipulate.

The Captain was running across the field, weapon in hand and golden tunic shredded. He vaulted over a boulder and ducked down for cover. Cautiously he peered over the top and a laser nearly shot his head off. It was a dangerous move but he gathered what he needed. He knew where his adversary was coming from. Quickly, he rose and fired his weapon. He hit his mark and the lizard creature staggered backward, but remained upright. Another bolt was fired and this time it fell backward.

“We will return to ‘A Mock Time’ after these commercial announcements.” The screen shut off and Wes reached over for the bag of chips.

“What did you do that for?” His brother Wendell asked puzzled.

“I’m so bored, we never do anything. Remember when we were kids? We spent all day doing exactly what Captain Jerk was doing. Sure it was all make believe, but at least we had fun.”

“Well why did you invite me over if you wanted to do something outside? We could have….” Wendell stopped and turned his attention to the kitchen. A strange static sound was coming from it. Wes noticed it also. They glanced at each other puzzled and got up to investigate. The sound was coming from the kitchen sink. Cautiously they looked inside and a gelatinous blob was coming up from the drain.

“I think you need to call the plumber.” Wendell told him. “Whatever that is, it’s disgusting and smells just as bad.” As if in response to the insult, the blob intensified its volume and small static bolts began to emanate from it.

“I don’t know about you, but heading outside seems to be a good idea after all.” Wes turned and ran quickly towards the front door.

“Yea, yea, you’re right.” Wendell added. They suddenly sprinted for the door, but each step caused the blob to intensify. As they reached the front door, the blob was out of control and shot a single electrical pulse towards the pair. An acrid smell and a puff of brownish smoke was all that was left.

The Omega Men – Part 1 of 4

“What is this childish contraption!?” Omega angrily asked the Doctor. He correctly sensed a trap.

The second Doctor was playing the fool earlier to rile up Omega. Now that he had his attention he replied sternly. “The only freedom you can ever have. Take it.” He paused briefly while glancing at a future regeneration of himself. “Take it Omega.” He said once more as both Doctors concentrated on trying to force their will.
The result only made Omega laugh. He spent centuries creating this world; his will was far superior to theirs.

The third Doctor was incensed. It wasn’t often he failed. “TAKE IT!” He screamed.

Omega suddenly realized he humoured the Doctor for long enough. It was time to get serious. “Commands?! YOU command me?! This is MY world! I COMMAND! And you pester me with trinkets!” He reached over and knocked the shield generator holding the recorded from the Doctors hands. He didn’t realize the recorder was not converted to anti-matter. It fell to the ground and when the matter and anti-matter touched the result imploded the world of Omega. The Doctor however escaped...narrowly.

Anybody caught in the explosion would certainly have perished. But Omega no longer had a body. Only his will insisted he existed, and because of this he survived. Not all at once of course, it took years before his consciousness began to reform. And even then, memories were yet to surface. It was as if he were reborn, only with an immaterial form instead of flesh and bone. He had no body, but he still aged - mentally. The more he aged, the more his memories returned; his early days on Gallifrey, his great experiment, his abandonment by the Time Lords and his betrayal by the Doctor.

The more he remembered, the angrier he grew. But he also became wiser. Omega’s talents increased and he recreated a ‘physical’ world to walk on once again. His enhanced consciousness allowed him to project his mind outside the anti-matter universe and keep tabs on the Time Lords. With enough concentration, he was even able to affect thoughts and actions of those he peered in on, not only of Gallifrey but other planets as well; Skaro, Metebelis, even Earth.

Omega’s complete dedication was now in escaping his world. The Doctor tried tricking him to believe he was forever trapped, that was unacceptable and untrue. So he continued to keep tabs on the Doctor, but doing so sickened him. The Doctor had his freedom, the ability to do whatever he wanted. The longer he watched, the more his anger grew. As his anger grew he re-avowed to take revenge on the Time Lords. But he learned from last time. Last time he sought to do so solely through another Time Lord. He wasn’t going to make the same mistake this time. This time, he would find others to unwittingly help him. The Thals of the planet Skaro were too simple, the natives of Metebelis even more so. But Earth, the Doctors favourite planet, held promise. Omega’s mind roved the Earth till he found someone suitable to meet his needs. Someone from a place called Minnesota.

This story takes place between Doctor Who adventures The Three Doctors and Arc of Infinity.

Dr. Who (The Early Years) - Part 28 "The Three Doctors"

In 1973, Doctor Who was in it's 10th year. And to celebrate, the producers decided to do something a little different. First, we officially get the name of the Doctor's planet, Gallifrey. A mysterious force is draining power from Gallifrey and the Timelords realize they will require the assistance of the Doctor. Every other Timelord seems to be needed to combat the power loss.

Unknown to anyone, the culprit is Omega. The original Timelord who effectively harnessed the power of a black-hole, which is what gives the Timelords the power to travel in time. He became trapped in the black-hole and was thought dead, but regarded as a hero. Trapped alone in a world of anti-matter, Omega became bitter and angry feeling abandoned.

On Earth, Omega has begun to reek his vengeance on the Timelords, starting with the Doctor. Sending anti-matter blobs & formless creatures in an attempt to capture and bring him to the anti-matter universe. While with Jo and Benton, the Doctor is forced to flee to the Tardis (This is Benton's first visit into the Tardis).

Still in critical condition, the Timelords break their own rule of time and send a previous incarnation of the Doctor to help himself. This catches Jo by surprise as she was unaware of the Doctors ability to regenerate. The Brigadier and Benton warmly welcome the 2nd Doctor, as this was how he looked when they first met him. Understandably, the Brigadier is still confused.

The power on Gallifrey is almost exhausted, but when the two Doctors continue to argue with each other instead of help each other, the Timelords are forced to send the 1st Doctor also. With limited power, they are only able to send him in an advisory role. (Actually, the actor William Hartnell was too ill to perform as the producers would have liked). The Doctors finally put their heads together and devise a way to "nobble" Omega.

The Doctors realize Omega has been completely consumed by the Anti-matter and exists only because his will commands it. Now knowing he can never return to the real world, Omega vows to destroy the universe but the Doctors give him the only freedom he can ever have - destruction. Doing so, they reverse the power drain on Gallifrey and supply it with a complete new energy source. In gratitude, the Timelords release the Doctor of his banishment and supply him with a new dematerialization circuit.
